Pittsburgh G-20 Archive: Twitter anarchist raided under 'riot' laws

An anarchist social worker raided by the feds wants his computers, manuscripts and pick axes back. He argues that authorities violated the U.S. Constitution and the rights of his mentally ill clients while searching for evidence that he broke an anti-rioting law on Twitter. [Read more]

Pittsburgh G-20 Archive: Attorney: Info sent to G-20 protesters via Twitter was public

The attorney for one of two men arrested during last month's G-20 summit for sending Twitter messages to help protesters argues that they were merely passing along public information. The two were relaying to protesters "what routes they might take, where police have said don't go, and things of that nature," said attorney Martin R. Stolar. Noting that police had made the information available on the Internet, Stolar said, "I don't see any way that you can criminalize passing on information that the police have put out publicly." [Read more]

Pittsburgh G-20 Archive: Arizona officers join in G-20 security effort

Lined up next to Pittsburgh police officers protecting a downtown office building Thursday morning were officers who traveled a little farther to get to work. About 2,000 miles farther. Thirty-six officers from the Tucson, Arizona, Police Department are in Pittsburgh as part of the G-20 security force. They were asked to assist by Pittsburgh officials as part of a Department of Homeland Security rapid response team. [Read more]

Text: The RNC "literally look[ed] like Nazi Germany"

STEELE: Where black people live. I'm just saying, where people, stereotypically or otherwise find us living, we moved from that into something different. And the question is, what do you do with it now that you're here? HUGHLEY: Well, Michael, I agree. I'm telling you, if it were the sign alone -- in other words, the tenets of the Republican Party are amazing and they seem warm and welcome. But when I watch it be applied -- like you didn't have to go much further than the Republican National Convention. [...] It literally look[ed] like Nazi Germany. It literally did. I make that point, not only are we not welcome -- not only are we not welcome, but they don't even care what we think. [Read more]

Text: Police deny using excessive force against RNC protesters

Authorities in Minnesota's Twin Cities have created "a climate of intense police intimidation," protesters at the Republican National Convention contend, but officials say they're merely preserving the peace. As of 9 a.m. CT Thursday, 422 people had been arrested since the convention began, according to law enforcement's Joint Information Center. Only 40 were still in custody earlier in the day. [Read more]

Video & Audio: CNN footage of protester Leah Lane abused by riot police

MUST SEE VIDEO. 18-year-old Leah Lane came from Wisconsin to protest the war at the RNC. On the fourth day of the RNC, she refused to obey a dispersal order given by riot police. While clearly not posing any threat to the police, instead of merely arresting Leah, she was repeatedly maced including at point blank range, hit with the tires of police bicycles, and pushed to the ground. Note the two laser sights that cross Lane 13-14 seconds into the footage. [Read more]

Video & Audio: Raw footage of Marion Street Bridge mass arrest on Day 4

1:44 minutes of raw footage from the events preceding and including Marion Street mass arrest of around 200 people, including journalists, street medics, and bystanders. Interesting footage in that it pans between both ends of the bridge, allowing you to see the two rows of riot police blocking any exit. [Read more]

Text: Dozens arrested outside of Republican convention

At least 56 people were arrested Monday after police fired projectiles and used pepper spray and tear gas to disperse a crowd demonstrating near the site of the Republican National Convention. CNN photojournalists witnessed police detaining between 20 and 30 individuals with plastic handcuffs a few blocks from the security perimeter around the Xcel Center in downtown St. Paul. A crowd of 300 individuals was later seen conducting what appeared to be a sit-in at a parking lot near the Mississippi River. [Read more]
