St. Paul City Attorney John Choi has come out at the top of the fundraising heap so far in the race for Ramsey County attorney.
Choi raised $76,193 in 2009, according to a finance report filed Monday. Dave Pinto, an assistant Ramsey County attorney, came in next at $43,005.
The other two candidates were private attorney David Schultz, who brought in $39,242, and Roseville City Council member Tammy Pust, who raised $31,636.
Expenditures were as follows: Choi, $20,425; Pinto, $38,469; Schultz, $61,888; and Pust, $5,158.
Schultz's total expenses, which put his cash-on-hand into the red, include an as-yet-unpaid ad contract with Clear Channel for $39,450.
The four are vying for the seat now held by Susan Gaertner, who is running for governor.
In the race for Ramsey County sheriff, two people — Matt Bostrom and Lisa Goodman — have said they'll challenge incumbent Bob Fletcher.
Fletcher raised $36,360 from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2009, and spent nearly $20,000.
Bostrom, an assistant St. Paul police chief, raised $8,360 from Nov. 25 to Jan. 26 and spent about $500.
Goodman, St. Catherine University director of public safety, raised $1,900 between Dec. 22 and Sunday, and spent about $800.
Both Bostrom and Goodman have said they'll seek the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party endorsement, though the race is not a partisan one.
