Police work to solve crimes committed during RNC

Although the Republican National Convention is long over, police are still searching for suspects behind crimes committed during the four-day event in St. Paul.

One standout crime was the assault of a man by anarchists on the first day of the convention that was captured in a photo. Hours later, surveillance footage captured a protester trashing a silver vehicle on Shepard Road.

"There are a number of these types of incidents that occurred—where people were terrorized, victimized, or assaulted," said Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher.

Ramsey County and the St. Paul Police Department have created an RNC Investigative Unit, consisting of 12 officers, to concentrate solely on identifying suspects responsible for the crimes committed during the convention.

The unit is pouring over 6,000 hours of video, countless pictures, and thousands of police documents from Sept. 1 through 4.

"We believe somewhere out there, whether it’s the victim or others, know who the perpetrators were," explained St. Paul Police Chief John Harrington.

One hurdle authorities have faced is the fact that many of the suspects are not from Minnesota.
People who believe they were victims of assault or criminal property damage during the RNC are asked to contact the RNC Investigative Unit at (651) 266 5471.
